I have k8n neo platiium mobo and a 3400 proc! I had iomega dualdvd which woudlnt work on nforce3 chipsets drivers! However my samsung cdrw/dvd rom combo works fine w/ nero! I would like to know if there are ppl using dvd writers which works w/ msi nforce3 drivers please let me know!

Only use ms ide drivers for dvd buring. There are numerous articles about problems with nvidia ide drivers and dvd burning (goto cdfreaks.com and search for nvidia ide drivers) liteon dvd burners are second rate at best. Speaking of lite on you can spend 40$ more for a liteon drive if you buy a sony.
All sony drives are rebadged liteons, they only charge you a boatload more. Best dvd burners out there are plextor, benq and nec. Stick with one of those 3 and you can't go wrong. Try uninstalling the nvidia ide drivers, but i think the nvidia drivers will come back. You may have to manually select the standard ms ide drivers for the ide channels. Btw, sorry if the liteon/sony dvd rant seemed a bit harsh.

Up til recently, I was content to burn DVD+R at 8x speed with my Lite-on 411S (Single layer). However, I was impressed with Plextor's PX-716A, and moreover I went for the SATA version, PX-716SA.
For a year, I never had trouble with the WD SATA hard drive connected to the SATA0 port, so I thought there wouldn't be any trouble with the Plextor drive. When I read a DVD-ROM with this drive, I can only get up to 7.3x speed, while DVD+R writes are limited to 6.5x (on good media like Verbatim 16x). Quality is good, but I am disappointed that the speed is not 16x.

Secondly, if I install the default Windows driver, what steps do I take (please be specific)? What should I look for in the alternative location of the driver.
