Old question but I'm leaving it even later than most to retrieve some old data. I have some Quark 3.32 (I think) files that were DDd in 98-99 and I'd like to retrieve them. As these are essentially text files I'm not in the slightest bothered about how they appear but if I can get the words back it would be marvellous.

  1. For some time, DiskDoubler was the second-best selling product on the Mac, second only to After Dark, the popular screen saver. Fifth Generation was later sold, somewhat ironically, to Symantec, who re-released it as a fat binary as Norton DiskDoubler Pro 1.1. Symantec 'sat' on the product and it slowly disappeared over the next year.

I've seen people suggesting DDexpand.sea but that doesn't seem to help. I have OSX and not Classic or OS9 or anything like that - have I left it too late? The material is not sensitive so even if I could send a couple of files to someone to extract that would be wonderful. Have you tried StuffIt Expander? Supposedly StuffIt Expander can handle Disk Doubler archives.

Mar 17, 2009  I am unable to decompress files compressed by Disk Dubler software. I dont know when lost my DD software. Can somebody supply to me the software or maybe you have another solution.

I can see from a little Googling that some people have not been able to expand them with StuffIt, but that might just be newer versions. I find that newer versions have trouble with older formats, even old StuffIt files.

So if the latest version doesn't work, I recommend trying the oldest version of StuffIt that you can find for OS X. I think the first OS X version was 5 or 6. Is it possible for you to install Classic on your system? If you have a PowerPC Mac running 10.4 or earlier, it supports Classic.
