I had 20 PC to setup and install so i installed all the drivers and needed software and then created a 'Windows Backup Image' from control and installed on rest of 19 PCs. Everything worked great but now and then a pop up would appear and tell me this copy of windows is counterfeit. If i go look at activation status it says active and does not give me option to change key. These tower came with Windows 7 Pro & Windows 8 Pro licenses but keys are not posted on tower themselves i was told they are 'inside motherboard' and windows should be able to activate it self automatically. Towers are Lenovo M82.

I can take one clean it up to my companies specifications and Image it on to a HDD with say Ghost or Acronis and the image the other 9 with what I just made. Now if these are all windows 8 pro machines and you are using the downgrade rights to go to windows 7 pro there should be no problems the reasons are: 1.

I have run into the situation of after so many activations online it tells me I have to phone in the number to verify the process. I have never EVER had an issue where I could not get a downgraded computer to activate. Our company was told this by our Microsoft rep that this is the process for manual downgrade. The only variable that I am not certain on is windows 8 and how that works considering it is built into the hardware not a sticker, but that is not where you are stuck at.

So, what did I do? I used a key from the last batch of lenovo workstations we got. It worked well and the message has not re-appeared. (without re-imaging or installing - I just plugged in the new key into the Activation Wizard) Only after looking at all keys from the last batch of machines, I realized they all had the same key, from the factory. So, it looks like they sold us a volume license key. Now, perhaps the correct avenue to take from here is to mention it to Microsoft and have them investigate lenovo.? (if they really want to).

Windows 8 pro is on the BIOS now, not Windows 7. All Windows 7 is, is a downgrade and Lenovo should have used their volume license for it. In fact if you were to find the product key of a windows 7 machine and compared it to the license number that is listed inside the OS they will most likely be different. Think about it all they do is image their machine, they do not have someone turning on the computer, loading into windows, entering the product key that is unique. It should allow you to 'activate' online and give you the ability to enter in a new product key. For the Windows 7 pro license you should be able to use one 7 pro key that is no longer being used by a system on its own for the downgrade. You will have to call it in to windows after going though entering the license but that is what we had to do with XP license and windows 7.

Won't try to pick it up if it wasn't sysprep'd thou. Not sure about the process for capturing OEM images as we use VL media here.
Also, you might look at MDT 2012 to capture and deploy your images. No i did not do sysprep. I made this image by going to control panel and 'create system image' in backup and restore options. At the end of backup it asked me to make a recovery disk for restore.

So, I would suggest that you purchase one licence of Windows 8/7 Pro and reimage from VL media. So, I would suggest that you purchase one licence of Windows 8/7 Pro and reimage from VL media. This is going to be a headache. Would i still need to purchase a licence if i use Windows Deployment Services or make a custom image then deploy it through server?

No install disk for a MAC. Linksys doesn't show any support for this situation. Now this all of this is for windows 7 and under, plus downgrades. As far as windows 8 is concerned it is a completely different beast being on the board and not a sticker.
I still feel like they have a master license that is on their images that they use to stamp the OS onto the machine but I just cannot be certain in that regards. I am also jumping the gun a little and am assuming that the windows 7 machines were downgraded. I have yet to see a system that is windows 7, that isn't VL, and not have a product key sticker. I have only seen the motherboard tie in with windows 8.
