- Amethyst is a straightforward macOS application that offers a long list of keyboard shortcuts that you can use to manage multiple tiling windows. Moreover, Amethyst comes as an alternative to fjolnir’s xnomad and can be expanded to include helpful features like Spaces support.
Amethyst for Mac allows you to resize and reposition windows in real time. It runs exclusively on the new OS X Mavericks, for which it is highly optimized. A useful app, it has a rather steep learning curve, which makes it challenging to use even for seasoned Mac users.
Amethyst for Mac doesn't have a graphical interface. When you start it for the first time it will ask for permission to manage your windows. After the initial setup, you will notice a new icon on the Menu Bar through which you can check for app updates, among others.

Since you're not taken through a tutorial on how Amethyst works, using it for the first time can be tricky. When the app is enabled, you'll notice that all windows are automatically resized and repositioned to take maximum advantage of the screen space. A nice feature of the app is the array of keyboard shortcuts that let you cycle through your windows and change their layout without any mouse interactions - while always taking full advantage of the display's size. Amethyst for Mac targets power users; novices may be confused about its use and purpose.
