The.4 update broke a Apple supplied java script function that TurboTax 2014 & 2015 needed - TurboTax issued a workaround script to remove the java component from the application since it was not critical for TurboTax to function. I have 10.13.4 on an external hard drive. If I have time, I will boot into that and update it to.6 to see what happened to me, but it might be a few days before I have the time to do that. What happens when you launch TurboTax 2017? Does it crash?

If so, what is in the crash log (Applications - Utilities - Console)? Any other error messages in Console? - are you up to 10.13.6 yet to try this?.

Does the TurboTax icon bounce in the dock? Have you tried to select the TurboTax application in the Applications Folder and then right-click - open (you might be running into the 'open for the first time issue'). Just to state the obvious - I assume you have restarted the Mac even after the update? Off the subject- Compatibility issues are a reason that I always run my main system a release behind.

I am running 10.12.6 and will probably update to 10.13 when 10.14 becomes available, then install 10.14 on an external bootable HD for testing that. I do have 10.13.4 on an external bookable hard drive for testing (also 10.11 & 10.10). Before updating any OS (even the external system) to the latest update I always make a bookable clone of that system before updating.

(4 TB external hard drives are quite inexpensive these days so I run several in an array each with several bootable partitions). Was able to reach out to our support teams and was able to provide me with the console logs from TurboTax 2017. We requested the Logs as we were unable to replicate this behavior in-house on the 10.13.6 update. In the logs I found an exception occurring with Sophos Security Software blocking TurboTax from launching due to the connection to check for updates. I suggested updating the Software to see if Sophos has patched anything on their end with the New OS update. We saw similar behavior with Windows 10, Avast, and a few other Anti Virus programs blocking TurboTax from installing after an update from Microsoft earlier this year.

After Avast updated their program TurboTax was able to install without issue. Thank you, and for the assist on this as well!. That is a known issue that seems to have been created by Apple with a change in OSX 10.13.4. There was no problem with OSX 10.13.3. Since this is not a defect in the TurboTax software, but is due to a change that Apple made which causes an internal Apple java script function to crash while reading an embedded java script component in the TurboTax application, TurboTax will not be issuing any update to the TurboTax software. However, TurboTax has issued a workaround to remove the java script from the TurboTax application so that the Apple software will not crash. @macuser22 suggested to ensure TT launched from Administrative Account.

Checked again and indeed it was invoked from Admin. Also as suggested by @macuser22, followed instructions in TT2014 now launches, but not TT201x (x=5, 6and7) Followed suggestions from Intuit Support to install TT2017 premier from Intuit site, not from CD. Deleted TT2017 installed from CD 2. Restarted the Mac 3.

Downloaded TT2017 from Intuit. Installed the above named version.

Launch TT2017 failed. Opened Console app. Launched TT again and it failed again. Copied and saved the logs.

When you uninstall, you must uninstall ALL of the associated files, not just the application. Corruption could have occurred in the Application or in an associated preference or support file. The best remedy is to totally uninstall TurboTax and all associate files and then re-install.

That will not delete or change any.tax2017 data file that had already been created with the tax data. To uninstall the application and all associated files need to be deleted and then the application reinstalled. If there was a state then the state must also be reinstalled.

There is a big difference between a system crash and and an application that just bounces the icon in the dock a few times and will not open, but not an actual crash. I have seen a couple of cases where TurboTax refused to open no matter what was done until the Mac user either switched to a different user account that had administrator privileges (or created an new administrator account just for testing). I don't know the final outcome since the user was going to the 'Genius Bar' at the Apple store since there must have been some basic issue with the User account that prevented TurboTax from opening. Using a new ID to do TT is a workaround and will get me over the hump.

When you start TurboTax in another user account all of the /Library preference files are created new for that user.
