JD does not write application support files all over the place. When possible, JD only writes to the JD directory. As these are files you downloaded with JD they are in some directory other than the JD app itself. In the settings for JD under Download and Connection there is a Download directory folder.
I forget where it points to by default as it has been forever since I installed the app myself. If I remember correctly though it usually defaults to the user download directory or the user desktop until one changes it. Now the question becomes where is this download directory actually located? Under what user name login is the App and or directory in also? There can be some problems at times with permissions on a folder or a file or set of files if there is a system problem or if something has been installed that changes permissions to certain areas of the drive (rare but it does happen on occasion).
When you said files can not be trashed are you saying they can not be moved to trash at all? This is possible at times due to permission settings. If they can be moved to trash but they are not able to be deleted when you tell the trash to delete the trash, this is also possible also due to permission settings or issues that the files think that they are still open in one way or another. Have you tried to start up in safe mode and tried to trash and delete the files that way?
It could be some other issue also such as the directory structure is messed up usually do to improper restarts, or you may have installed something that is conflicting with these files and trash. I would suggest first checking the directory and the files to see what the ownership and permissions are for the folder and the files.
Change them if needed but if your unfamiliar with permissions and structures be careful, you don't want to screw something up by accident. I suggest using Batchmod for the uninitiated. If none of the above works then I would try running Diskwarrior (DW will need to be stared from a boot up CD or from another boot up drive that may be on another external drive or USB stick depending on which OS your on) on the drive and also checking permissions on the drive if it is a boot drive. If none of that works then you will need to give more info on your setup and perhaps where and what the files are where they are truly located at. I've had similar problems with other downloading programs in the past that leave traces like this that can't be deleted (I assume it has something to do with the resume download function) and figured the solution would be the same. Anyway, the files were downloaded onto an external hard drive.
They are separate pieces of a larger.rar file. They can't be placed in the trash.

And now I notice they are 0KB, so basically they are just a remnant of a file and apparently not even taking up any space. I tried batchmod and it also says they don't exist. So it appears changing permissions is not an option. Now that I know they aren't taking up space I'm not really that bothered by them - unless of course anyone has an easy solution that doesn't require too much technical work or knowledge. K good to see their not taking up space but, as I also said before and it is looking more like you do have some directory structures that are waked in one way or another. I would suggest that you try to find a friend with a bootable Diskwarrior CD and run it on your main boot drive and all of your external drives also just to ensure things are correct on the lower level of the drive(s) before something really screws up on you. You could of course try the built in DU app on the external but it often does not find some areas that really need or should to be fixed. If you have problems on the main boot drive of course you will need to boot from your install DVD or from another partition on another external t if you have one already set up so you can run DU on the boot drive properly.
